Raising Boys: Model The Way
When it comes to raising boys into fine young men, there is no better guide than how we behave ourselves. If we want to raise compassionate, empathetic young men then we need to make sure we are practicing compassion and empathy when we are dealing with them.
This can be incredibly difficult when dealing with behaviors that challenge us. The thing to remember is these behaviors come from a place of emotion. They are trying to meet some need. As parents we have the opportunity to “practice the pause” and practice empathizing with that feeling.
When we focus on the feeling rather than the behavior we are much more likely to make favourable progress.
