What was hard becomes easy

So here we are less than two weeks away from the most challenging physical thing I have ever done in my life.  In 12 days I will swim 3.8km, bike 180km and then run a marathon. This is a feat that 18 months ago I would have thought impossible. Now don’t get me wrong or imply by the title of this article that I think any part of this is going to be easy.  It won’t! What has struck me though is how my perspective has changed over time.  As I start to move into my taper weeks and the volume of training goes down I catch myself thinking things like “Phew, only a 4 hour ride this week!”.  When the heck did a 4 hour cycle become easy?!?  It is moments like this that I reflect on what has made it “easy”.  It is the hours of training and practice that have made what would have used to be viewed as impossible, possible.

While this experience has been a physical one you can easily see how the principles hold true to any aspect of life.  With enough training, practice and dedication you can do pretty much anything you like.  The things that you find difficult in life can become easy.  I didn’t start with a 4 hour ride but gradually built up to and surpassed it so that eventually scaling back to only 4 hours feels relatively easy.

What is hard in your life that you could make relatively easy with some training, practice and patience?
